The Win Academy balance of education and sport is successful.

Getting the right balance - on court and in the classroom

The Importance of Learning

Win Tennis GCSE classroom

Although the core function of The Win Academy is to create tennis & badminton winners, and hopefully champions, we fully understand the need for good education and the important role it plays in the development of young people.

Indeed, we believe that to be a champion on the tennis & badminton circuit, to cope with the pressures and exercise the necessary life skills that playing on the tour demands, a good education is essential. Our aim is to produce well-balanced and independent individuals.

At Win Academy, we successfully balance the best education available to our players working alongside their sports schedule.

The education side of this balance has been devised so that our players can receive a compact yet comprehensive selection of core courses from KS2 to A level and SAT.

Qualifications in both IGCSE and GCSE are on offer.

In addition to A levels. Some of our players take the LTA Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) qualification and many prepare for the USA SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) in both Reasoning and Subject Tests. Also the TOEFL tests for admission to American Colleges.

Overall, we train our players/students in critical thinking, study and exams skills, problem solving and communication skills, giving them individual attention in class and during extra tuition or preparation hours.

Communication

Our team of highly qualified, effective and caring tutors work for the benefit of your child in close partnership with you and the tennis & badminton coaches. As a parent or guardian, you play a vital role in supporting and encouraging your child at all stages and we are grateful for your assistance in helping our players achieve their best possible results.

The Win Academy education programme is designed so that players can join us at Key Stage 2 and stay with us until A Level, or join us at any point in between.

Programme Structure

Our education programme is adapted to the needs of your child and the ages indicated below are indicative of the different levels. Players may be fast-tracked if we are convinced through assessments that they are capable and ready.

The structure of the programme for the different stages is as follows:

Key Stage 2
(Primary school age 9 to 11 – Years 5 and 6)

Key Stage 3
(Secondary school age 11 to 13 – Years 7, 8 with KS3 year 9 completed in year 8)

Key Stage 4
(GCSE students age 14 to 15 – Years 10 and 11)

Key Stage 5
(A Level and BTEC students age 16, 17 and 18)

The note below and the Win Academy Education Model, available to download, will help you understand the reason behind differences in timing of exams as compared to main stream education:

Note: One of the Win Academy’s main aims is to help student athletes complete their GCSE exams one year early thus allowing them the flexibility of a structured educational programme in year 11 which creates the extra time to enable them to maximise their sporting potential at International level.
